Mobile Home leaking roof

My mobile home roof in North Fort Myers is leaking. What needs to be done?

Well, first you need someone to go up on the roof to examine any damage that may have occurred. Look for holes in roof, missing flashing, or lifted up screws.

If their are no holes in the roof then most likely its flashing and screws that need to be replaced. The screws  have a rubber garment on them to seal once screwed in. Usually what happens is the screws may back out and the hole is not sealed any longer. Another thing is that the rubber garment dries out and has cracks which lets the water enter under the screw.

Roof problems need to be addressed as soon as possible because water damage inside can be costly and produce mold in your home.

Most roofs as long as they are not damaged can be repair to last years down the road.

Also you must always use the right products on your roof. Be sure to see what type of covering material is on your roof because if you trowel or paint over a material that’s not compatible, it will pull away and not seal or solve your problem.

Termite prevention mobile homes

Things you can do to both prevent and detect termites in your Fort Myers Florida mobile home .

1)Keep any wood mulch chips at least one foot away from foundation of your mobile home.

2)Remove all loose items containing wood from around the exterior perimeter of the mobile home, such as scrap wood, firewood, fencing, and even cardboard boxes.

3)You need to repair any water leaks in the roof, walls, or plumbing. Termites thrive when there is a source of water.

4)Keep any wood siding at least 6-inches above the ground. If you already have siding that extends into the ground, consider repair by a licensed tradesperson, or discuss other options to keep termites out of the in-ground wood with a licensed pest control operator.

5)Make sure your landscape sprinkler system does not spray water on the walls of the house. Also, extend the drain termination for the a/c condensate pipe away from the walls of the home.

6)Clean leaves and debris out of your gutter regularly. Make sure the downspouts discharge water at least 3 feet away from the home.

7)Look for piles of discarded termite wings on window sills, counter tops, and floors, especially in spring and early summer.

8)Look for tiny piles of wood shavings/dust, as well as tiny holes in the walls.

9)Gently probe any areas of bubbled paint in wood surfaces to look for crumbling wood of termite “galleries.” Look for any dirt veins from the ground running up the walls or foundation of the home.

10) Schedule a termite inspection annually.
